Specialists
in native hardwoods.
Most of our logs are purchased
locally in Cumbria, however we do acquire logs from all over the
country to ensure a wide selection of species. Timber is only sourced
from managed woodland or where trees have to be extracted due to
developments etc.
We are committed to provide top quality timber with a friendly
personal service, good value and free woodturning advice if required.
Milling Operation
We have a huge Stenner Band Mill suitable for milling all native
timbers. The 35ft. blade tensioned to about ten tons and the
computer controlled operation ensure the most accurate cutting.
Drying Yard
Boards are stacked to air-dry in the traditional way and subject
to the thickness and species of the timber may be left air-drying
for several years before kilning. Slow drying reduces the chance
of the timber degrading so we never rush the process.
Kiln
Once the moisture content of the timber has been significantly
reduced to an acceptable level it is ready for kilning. In our
state of the art, fully computerised heat vent kiln the moisture
is reduced to levels suitable for modern centrally heated homes.
Workshop
Our new fully equipped woodturning workshop provides the perfect
atmosphere to discuss any aspect of woodcraft.
