The Robert Sorby Stebcentre The Robert Sorby Stebcentre is a drive centre. It has several features that make it unique to any other drive centre. The razor sharp serrated teeth dig into and grip the work piece.
The greatest benefit the Stebcentre has over any other is the spring-loaded centre point. If the turner is a beginner they can offer the wood up to the point and start to apply pressure against the spring by winding in the tailstock. Enough pressure can be applied so the wood can be driven with only the tip of the teeth biting. Used in this way the turner can practice using the Skew for example, if dig-in accurs the wood will stop turning without any danger.Once confident in the necessary skills the tailstock can be wound in so that the teeth bite and give an extremely positive drive.
